We have been to Bayamo twice- the first time was during a stop on our return from an overnight trip to Santiago de Cuba so we did not get to see as much of the city as we would have liked. This time we arranged a private tour with a superb driver, Mykel, who took us round and explained a lot of the history about Carlos Manuel de Céspedes and the war against the Spanish for independence and the architecture to us. We ate at a great traditional Cuban restaurant, San Salvador, but there are lots of other places to go. We visited on 10 October- independence day in Cuba and went out in the evening and had a really chilled out time playing dominoes and drinking coctails. Great nightlife and friendly locals. The service at the Havana Club bar is great and we worked our way through their coctail list with one of their lovely (and patient) waitresses looking after us all night. Would thoroughly recommend a trip to Bayamo- very laid back city.
