I'm glad I've been to Cairo, but I wouldn't want to go back or even stay there overnight. Granted, my mum and me visited Cairo in January 2014, still very much in the midst of a violent revolution (two days after we visited a couple dozen people died by gunfire on the third anniversary of the revolution), and I don't know what the city could be like in quieter times. The Cairo we visited was dirty, ugly, smoggy and dangerous and simply not a city you'd citytrip to. We did a short Nile cruise through the city center, which was pretty amazing. The Egyptian Museum is incredible, with a humongous collection in a gorgeous building, but the building is in a terrible state and the artifacts are in serious danger of being permanently damaged. The Pyramids and Sphinx did not disappoint, even more amazing in real life than online, not overhyped and definitely something you have to visit in your lifetime. Cairo rush hour is an experience in and of itself. Get a driver, don't drive yourself!
